recast is a faux-celeb community where you claim the credits of one artist to create your own celebrity. when you take a claim that means you must claim every single one of their credits - not just the critically acclaimed roles, albums and projects. you must take their bombed projects that they would regret now.

we realize that there have been many faux celebrity communities before us and while we're not here to try to re-invent the wheel we do want to try to invigorate things. we ask that you bring a fresh, new character to the community and avoid reviving old ones. come in with an open mind and be willing to branch out from the friends you've made in past communities. as mods we'll do everything we can to encourage creativity, friendliness and a fun environment as long as you're willing to help.

recast may not be for you if you're the type of person to judge other people's ic choices, credit/pb choices or writing. please leave any vendettas or grudges in the past. to sum up this point: don't be an asshole, concentrate on your own character.

→ psa on whitewashing/race swapping

we're sorry that this has to be said at all. if you're thinking about asking for any sort of exception or workaround the answer is no. you cannot whitewash. in most cases you can use a poc to claim a white person's credits but we ask that you be thoughtful about this because it could cause some issues. for example, emma stone's role in the help had to be played by a white person for obvious reasons. because of this we're allowing people that take a white person's credits with a poc pb to remove those sort of roles from their works just make it clear somewhere in your ooc post. if you're unsure if an actor or actress is a poc for whatever reason do a little research before claiming them with a white pb.

→ setting up, aesthetics, applying

setting up for recast is incredibly easy. journals are in character (available to rename: journalers, recycled, domains) with one in character post and one out of character post. your out of character post must contain basic information for your character. we don't require bios but some information is encouraged. all you need to reply is a character's full name, birthday, hometown, occupation and a link (a link to your claim's imdb/wiki page is fine) or complete list of their work.

we aren't of the mindset that aesthetics are the most important thing in rp however we do feel that it's not hard with the current resources available to fit in. please refer to the resources in the application post for icons, layouts, etc when setting up. we will reject applicants based on this and examples if we feel no effort was made. keep in mind we're not going to be incredibly picky either way. we felt being upfront about this was only fair.

examples are required. as you can see from the activity rules that we do encouage writing here, especially narratives on the fp. so please show us that you like to write with your exampes with at least one narrative and one scene. link us in the drop-box and make sure you add us to your example journals/custom example posts.

→ activity, intros & interaction

we want activity here to be diverse. first and foremost this means branching out beyond your and your character's friends. comment new members intros & fos, participate in activities when you can and do not hide in customs. having said that please realize that organic interaction is great too! you don't need 30 connections in pbads before you're willing to comment the fp and you don't need a confirmed connection with someone just to talk to them.

you must update twice a month. we allow you to update with whatever you want with whatever works for your schedule. keep in mind that we heavily encourage narratives and updates that tell us about your character whether it's their past or present. we don't have any kind of word count so even a 100 word narrative would be adored. if we see that people are just updating with instagram posts month after month we will absolutely change this rule.

introductions can be whatever you want and you have 72 hours to post anything. it can even be a narrative if you want but keep in mind if you do post something like that for your first post in the community we want to see that you're commenting around. you can post lyrics, questions, social media posts, etc.

we will have a lot of activities here. plot posts, ffas (ic and ooc), gossip posts, etc. we ask that when you start up your own activities that you don't do things a lot the leave out big chunks of the community. we know this happens in real life but it's rp and we're trying to be inclusive. it's rp so realzie that realism can be left at the door sometimes.

→ apps and offsite activities

wire is not banned because we realize that we can't realistically stop people from using it. having said that you should only have wire as a backup to your journals. customs and fp activity is your priority. wire is inconvenient and inaccessible for some while the fp is totally there for everyone who joins. if you're neglecting your customs and other activities going on in the community but you're very active on wire we'll consider removing you. if you're a wire reliant rper then you probably won't do well here. this also goes for telegram, discord and other messaging apps.

other offsite activities aren't banned or even frowned upon but we ask that you only try to start something like this up no more than once a week. if someone did a movie night or something on monday don't turn around and post something on tuesday. post a ffa or game or something on the fp that everyone can partake in. having said that, if these things do pop up occasionally and rarely don't shit on other people's good time just because you can't participate that night. it sucks but let people have fun.
